For me to try to pick out any certain time or season and describe it would be foolish because everything sorta runs together and jumps from one year to another.

Winters were different than they are now.  Well, maybe the winters weren’t so much different from a weather viewpoint but they were much different from the machine age viewpoint.

Horses were still the main standby for transportation and for evening entertainment if you wanted music you got it from a piano, violin or maybe a phonograph.  But why stand out here in the cold.  There is about eight inches of snow on the ground and its beginning to snow again so come on in and set your overshoes behind the kitchen range.  That’s the range to your right.  In the dim light of the kerosene lamps the top of the stove glows red.  Ma is frying beefsteak and potatoes and the oven has a pan or two of baking powder biscuits in so supper will soon be ready.  The wash pan is to the left of the stove so get some warm water out of the reservoir attached to
